Born in 1971 in Offenburg, Germany, Gregor Hylla attended the Universität der Künste in Berlin where he studied architecture. His painting is inspired by constructivist-shapes and colour-field painting creating surfaces suggestive of geometric abstraction, but with an intimacy drawn from personal experience. He has exhibited internationally including showing in the following group exhibitions: Modern Modern, Chelsea Art Museum, New York (2009), freier Fall, Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe (2009), Experimenta FOLKLORE, Kunstverein Frankfurt (2008). His work was included in the very first Berlin Biennale, HSC 3D in 1998. Forthcoming exhibitions include: Eckpunkt, Hannover Kunstverein, Hannover (2009), and Unresolved, Castlefield Gallery, Manchester (2009). He had a solo presentation with Tanya Leighton at Liste 09 in Basel earlier this year. Hylla lives and works in Berlin.
